How to send money

  1. Bring your photo ID and the cash to send plus the fee.
  2. Give us your receiver's details: full name as on their ID, city and country.
  3. Check the receipt before you pay. It shows the fee, the exchange rate for international transfers and the amount your receiver gets.
  4. Share the reference number with your receiver so they can pick up the money.

Protect yourself from scams: never send money to someone you have not met in person, to "release" a prize, or to pay a stranger who contacted you out of the blue.

Your rights on international transfers

For transfers to another country, federal rules give you a written disclosure of the fee, exchange rate and amount to be received before you pay, a receipt that says when the money will be available, the right to cancel within 30 minutes in most cases, and a way to report errors. Ask for your receipt and keep it until the money is picked up.

Frequently asked questions

Are MoneyGram and Western Union the same?
No. They are two separate money transfer companies, each with its own network, fees and exchange rates. Payday Express stores have offered both; ask your store which one it offers today.
How much does it cost to send money?
The fee depends on the company, the amount, where the money is going and how it is paid out. Before you pay, you get a receipt showing the fee, the exchange rate for international transfers and the amount your receiver will get.
What do I need to send money?
A valid photo ID, the cash to send plus the fee, and your receiver's full name exactly as it appears on their ID, along with the city and country where they will pick it up.
How do I pick up money someone sent me?
Bring a valid photo ID and the reference number your sender gives you. The name on your ID must match the name on the transfer.
Can I cancel an international transfer?
Under federal rules for international money transfers, you can usually cancel within 30 minutes of paying, as long as the money has not been picked up or deposited, and get a full refund. Your receipt explains how.
Can I buy a money order or pay a bill at the same time?
Yes. You can buy money orders, pay utility, car and credit card bills and get prepaid debit cards at the same counter.
